Tignes comprises 5 Villages; Val Claret, Tignes le Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes-les-Brévières. The first three are close together, sitting at 2100m. Les Boisses sits just below and Les Brevieres is even further down the valley. Les Brévières is an old village whereas all the others were created as part of the Dam construction or development of the ski resort. All the villages are part of the ski resort known as Tignes.
Tignes is served by the large ski area L’Espace Killy which it shares with ite neighbouring resort, Val d’Isere. The Espace Killy area boasts and with over 300km (190 miles) of pistes whilst Tignes alone boasts 150 shops, 115 bars, numerous ski schools, 1500+ staff & extensive off-piste.
Tignes boasts a fast & efficient lift system of 97 lifts including 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways) one of which transports you from Tignes Val Claret to the ‘Panoramic Restaurant’ on the Grand Motte Glacier. All standards are catered for with ‘5 free lifts for beginners’
Due to its altitude, Tignes is one of the more snow sure resorts in the Alps.
L’Espace Killy is known for its incredible off-piste with good lift access. Also there is a half pipe, boardercross course, some great freeriding & the 1992 Olympics downhill course if you are brave enough.
