Overview
Italy is blessed with a number of great ski areas, many of which are featured by Glacius.
Whilst the skiing rivals that of France, Switzerland and Austria, the atmosphere and literally everything else you encounter will be unique to Italy, and to be quite honest, we prefer it! We find many of the Italian resorts to offer a high level of family friendliness, superb value, amazing food and unrivalled scenery (especially in the Dolomites).
Italy is home to a few large linked ski areas – none more famous than the famous Sella Ronda – a circular network of lifts and pistes around the majestic Gruppo del Sella, taking in a number of beautiful resorts along the way. The Monterosa ski area (Champoluc & Gressoney) is also an underrated area and is a real hidden gem for both intermediates and experts. Despite there being more snow sure resorts in Austria and France in particular, the resorts offered by Glacius have a fantastic track record, especially in mid-winter. For those wishing to ski either early on in the season or towards the end of the season, Cervinia and Sestriere should prove a safe bet. The majestic resort of Cortina also has a very long season. However, when the snow does not fall as often or as regularly as we like, the state of the art technology in all our features resorts means that even in very little natural cover, skiers can still enjoy miles of impeccably groomed
piste.
Key Facts
Airports
taly has four airports that are very convenient for skiing; Turin, Milan, Venice and Verona. Should you be destined for the
Dolomites, Innsbruck Airport in Austria may also be suitable. Geneva is the best airport for accessing Courmayeur.
Getting around Italy
All the Italian resorts featured by Glacius are best accessed by road with all being no further than 2.5 hours from the nearest airport. Railway access, other than in relation to Sestriere, doesn’t work – even for Sestriere, there is a 40 minute taxi from the nearest station. As such, most of our guests make their transfers by road, whether it be by private or shared transfer.

Corporates
Italy plays host to two of our corporate
itineraries. Courmayeur is a wonderful place, just one hour from Geneva. Courmayeur offers wonderful skiing, proximity to Geneva airport and incredible food. With a range of accommodation options on offer, this is a trip which can cater for all budgets and abilities – however do note – beginners have a fairly steep learning curve! Cortina is simply wonderful – it is as if it was built for corporate ski trips – with incredible skiing, outrageous scenery, amazing food (especially if you know the locals as we do), and great bars and night clubs, it ticks every single box!
Groups
A group ski holiday is unrivalled when it comes to memories being made. Whether it be with family or friends, swooshing down a slope all together is unbelievably exhilarating. A group ski holiday in Italy is no exception to the above. Italians are convivial by nature and their culture is focused on family. The food is to die for and the service so unbelievably welcoming. All these traits make for a memorable experience and one which, with the Glacius touch, is stress-free.
Families
Italian resorts are very popular with families.
It is however a slightly different family friendly offering to that of France. The atmosphere is quite a bit more laid back – allowing for less stressy times, even when there are lots of moving parts such as
lessons, creches, child care and equipment hire. What we also love about the Italian way is that young children are welcome in the
luxury hotels and chic restaurants, meaning that all the family can indulge at meal time!
There is also no doubt that a family ski holiday is expensive and whilst the fixed costs still apply when travelling to Italy, you more often than not enjoy a sense of value fr money when out and about – a rare
sensation in the Alps.
We would be delighted to talk you through the most suitable resort for your family.
