It does not matter if you’re a skier or a snowboarder – you’ll find everything you need in abundance on the slopes of Austria. Resorts in Austria are commonly picturesque, have an abundance of trees, charm, and most areas have plenty for all abilities. Most Austrian resorts sit a little lower in altitude than the French resorts however given their more eastern location, does not mean less snow. Snowmaking is also usually good. Many areas are linked by quick and efficient ski buses. Austria is famed for having the liveliest après ski in the world. Crammed outdoor terraces, oompah bands and steins of beer fuel a unique atmosphere, both on the mountain and in the resorts. Most accommodation in Austria is good quality and most hotels are family-run, offering a half-board basis, meaning that dining will be a highlight of your trip. Wellness is a priority for Austrians and so you can expect a spa or at least a sauna and steam room to relax after a day on the slopes.
Austria has two main airports that are very convenient for skiing;
Salzburg and Innsbruck. Munich and Zurich are also convenient
and offer a greater variety of routes.
Getting around Austria
Many resorts sit on railway lines (or not that far away from them).
St Anton and Kitzbuhel are two classic examples.
There are a few Austrian resorts in particular that lend themselves to a corporate ski trip; St Anton, Ischgl and Kitzbuhel being leading contenders. They however are at the higher end of the budget and given their popularity, early booking is necessary. For a less apres-focused experience, resorts such as Obertauern, Obergurgl and Lech should be considered.
If value for money is the priorty , Mayrhofen should also be conisdered. Glacius can prepare options for you in relation to the abovementioned resorts as well as many more.
Austrian resorts are great for groups asthey tick a huge number of boxes. In-resort costs beat those of France, the ease of access (many resorts being able to be reached within 1.5 hours from the airport), and the unrivaled charm of many village resorts are enough to keep most groups satisfied.
And then we have the apres which again, allows those groups who wish to party, to party! And party hard! Accommodation wise, there are few chalets and so most groups will be staying in guest houses or hotel, which are most of often family run.

Some of the most family friendly ski resorts
are in Austria. Glacius believes that the key factors that go a long way to ensuring a successful family ski holiday are safe easy access to nursery slopes, good childcare and conveniently located accommodation. The resorts which we believe tick the above criteria are Obergurgl and Lech, both of which are featured on this website in more detail. Resorts in the Skiwelt (Ellmau in partiuclar) are also very family friendly but can suffer from low altitude. Zell am See is
also a winner when it comes to young
