The family run 3* Hotel Kandahar sits in a central location in Val d’Isere, just 250 metres from the ski slopes.

The hotel is a certain style of its own – the wood and fabric used to decorate the inside make it wonderfully cosy and the old photographs and mementoes of Val d’Isere on the walls adds some welcomed authenticity.

The hotel is not huge with just 46 rooms, each decorated with a range of textures, from matte walls to fur throws to wooden wall panelling. Small rooms are 20 to 22 m2, mid-sized rooms are 26 m2 to 30 m2, and the suites are 30 m2 to 40 m2. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with separate bath or shower facilities, with all rooms opening out onto a balcony. Many rooms have extra built-in bunk beds as the ideal solution for families.

In addition to the relaxing sitting room with fireplace and bar, the property is home to a private steam room, sauna and small fitness suite, open daily from 4pm – 9pm and reserved for the enjoyment of hotel guests only.

The restaurant serves an a la carte menu, as well as a 3-course set menu with two choices for each course. The framed winter Olympic prints lining the restaurant walls remind you that you are in fact in a ski resort and not a boutique city centre hotel.

The breakfast room is delightful and overlooks the bustle of the main street.

La Taverne d’Alsace Restaurant: With a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Hotel Kandahar’s popular in-house restaurant is open every day from 7pm – 11pm and serves a variety of dishes that combine traditional French classics like Tarte Flambee but with an exciting Alsacian twist.
