Overview
Hotel Monte Rosa, the first ever hotel in the village, is steeped in tradition and history. Since 1839, the hotel has been taking in guests and despite continual upgrades and renovations, we can confirm that it has throughout maintained its welcoming ambience ambiance and charm that only a hotel with its history can offer. There is in fact a weekly guided tour of the hotel and its history which we thoroughly recommend.
The hotel sits in the heart of the village, opposite the old church, and offers guests majestic views of the Matterhorn. It is a 5 minute walk from the Gornergrat railway.
The hotel offers a wide range of rooms, all of which are beautifully decorated. Some rooms have retained a more Alpine feel whereas others are more modern. Some suites have balconies, and some have spectacular views of the Matterhorn. Interconnecting rooms and 2 bedroom suites are perfect for families.
Renowned for its cocktails, the cosy Edward’s Bar-Cafe is the place for a congenial pre-dinner drink before enjoying a gourmet dinner in the historic dining room, with its ornate ceiling and traditional charm. The ‘dine around’ system allows guests on half board to dine at 14 different restaurants around the resort, ranging from traditional Swiss cuisine to Japanese delicacies and gourmet affairs.
Despite not boasting a spa itself, all the facilities at the Mont Cervin Palace (just 100 metres away) are open to the Monte Rosa guests, including the fabulous spa with its indoor swimming pool, a heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, two whirlpools, a Finnish sauna, steambaths, an ice-grotto and a relaxation room.
