Overview
Hotel Sassongher is a 5*, family run hotel located in a tranquil setting, but just a ten minute walk from the centre of Corvara. The slopes and lifts are a three minute drive away. If you don’t want to walk to the lifts, there are also on-call vehicles at the hotel that can take guests to and from local destinations.
The hotel caters for couples, groups and families in equal measure. There is just so much space, allowing for each group/couple to enjoy a real sense of privacy.
The family-run hotel has been extended over the years and now has around 50 rooms, but is still in keeping with the local traditions and environment. The hotel feels authentically cosy, yet has all of the five star luxuries that you should expect. The rooms are spacious and have been modernised but are still sumptuous and in keeping with the traditional feel of the hotel. The beds are comfortable, fashioned from local timber.
With a classic chalet-style facade, inside the hotel guests will find a mix of traditional Italian and Austrian-Tyrolian decor, with wood panelling, antiques and oriental rugs throughout. As a result there is a cosy, private feel to the hotel and the modern spa area and pools are nicely integrated into the space.
Unwind in one of the hotels comfortable lounges after a long day on the mountain, sampling the wonderful Italian wine, or perhaps just catching up on a good book before you sit down to sample the hotels gastronomic delights.
The rooms mostly also boast a magical view. The hotel can offer a backdrop better than most hotels in the town due to its elevated position – providing the most beautiful backdrop.
The hotel’s ‘Rita Pescosta’ philosophy is ultimate pampering, and guests can choose from alpine beauty treatments, body treatments, face treatments and massages. The spa area also includes a Finnish sauna and an Infrared sauna, whirlpool, swimming pool and a sun terrace.

Dining
The most romantic dining takes place in the three dollshouse-like ‘Stuben’ – snug parlours panelled from top to toe in antique Alpine wood, oozing Tyrolean style. There’s another restaurant for breakfast and low-season dinners – its airport-lounge decor redeemed by a filmic mountain panorama. The ground-floor bar serves up aperitifs, cocktails and after-dinner drinks (and dancing, if the mood takes you) to the strains of live piano music.
For breakfast, expect a rich continental buffet with cooked dishes on request. Dinner is a refined affair (think starched white napery, silver chargers and plate hoods), with a focus on classic Italian and local Ladin dishes. An overture of antipasti and salads features breaded oysters, smoked fish, prawn-filled sea-shells, marinated and grilled vegetables, tartlets, savoury strudels and salumi; the list goes on.
Glacius says…
“A true traditional 5* experience – the rooms are very spacious and beautifully appointed, the views from the rooms are spectacular. The meals are superb and there’s no doubt, all because the hotel is excellently run”
